DeepFlight Dragon Undergoes Testing

July 27,2015

The Dragon is now in its testing phase and last week the crew put it in the water to see what it can do. In the photos below, you can see the guys testing out the buoyancy and trim characteristics of the fully-built Dragon. They got it in the water outside the DeepFlight workshop to see how it sat and floated. It exceeded all expectations. The calculations had been exactly right!

The team also performed a vacuum test, where the pressure inside was decreased by heating up the atmosphere using special instruments and then allowing it to cool. The difference in pressure then seals the pressure hull. And if there is a leak, the pressure will slowly creep back up. It didn’t, meaning the pressure hull is waterproof and gas-proof.

This week, the team is testing the thrusters. The Dragon is getting close to finished…
