How did Graham become a submersible designer?
As a child, Graham was fascinated by airplanes and an admitted "tinkerer." He studied mechanical engineering and one of his first jobs was to design an underwater swimmer delivery vehicle. He had no prior knowledge of submersibles. That was 28 years ago.

How does one become a submersible designer?
Probably the most important step in becoming a submersible designer is to study engineering. Today, some schools also have ocean engineering departments. Our current engineering team consists of three mechanical engineers and one electronics engineer.

What is the difference between a submarine and a submersible?
Submarines are theoretically similar to submersibles, but are vastly larger, self-contained ocean-going vessels that live in a world and class of their own.

Do you sell your subs to the public?
Yes, we are designing and building submersibles for private clients, and we lease our submersibles as well.

How do I apply for a job at Hawkes Ocean Technologies?
We are a very small organization, and we generally are not in the hiring mode. However, you can send a resume to karen@deepflight.com, and we will be in touch with you if we have a position that fits your skills.
