As we are about to enter the twenty-first century, we wonder what dramatic, new developments await. One profound development is inevitable and predictable. Earth's oceans are a huge, unexplored territory, inexplicably tied to the health of the planet in ways that we are just beginning to understand. More immediate, closer and endlessly richer in life, resources and mysteries of life than near space, it is earth's oceans — not space — that will fuel man's future into the next century.

Believing that manned access to the deep ocean is integral to the future, renowned ocean engineer and explorer, Graham Hawkes has built the world's first underwater aircraft, Deep Flight I (a prototype capable of flying down to 3,300 feet). He plans to take the next iteration of this vehicle, Deep Flight II, 37,000 feet down to The Mariana Trench — the ocean equivalent of going to the moon.

Deep Flight has captured the attention of the global media (and the public in general) because it represents the enabling technology to access the last frontier of planetary exploration and discovery. The only two (known) efforts worldwide for deep ocean access are Deep Flight (Deep Flight I was a one million dollar program) and a several hundred million dollar Japanese campaign organized through Jamstec, a government-business consortium.

Deep Flight is a private effort, with no government support. Hawkes Ocean Technologies has only been able to build the prototype Deep Flight I with the help of financial sponsors, including IMAX, Television New Zealand, National Geographic Television and Rolex, and product sponsors, including Autodesk and Hewlett Packard. With Deep Flight I built and tested, its near future use will be for unique underwater film and television projects. However, its real purpose was always as a technology demonstrator and a bridge to the full ocean depth vehicle, Deep Flight II.

Hawkes Ocean Technologies (H.O.T.) has completed the conceptual design of Deep Flight II, which is a revolutionary modular system designed for pure exploratory and scientific expeditions. (Deep Flight II is a $10 million dollar effort). We are currently looking for a corporate sponsor(s) and/or patrons who wishes to partner with H.O.T. to participate in the ultimate journey - "Ocean Everest" - a flight 37,000 feet down to the bottom of the planet.
