The producers of "Sphere" wanted a submersible that had credibility as a realistic design. They came to Graham Hawkes inquiring about a two person submersible, Deep Rover II, that Graham had designed in the early '90s. Renting the sub for the entire shoot was out of the question, so they had us build a non-functioning prop that would retain the credibility.

Although only minimal engineering was done on the project, the concept of the sub was modeled in 3D to sell the idea to the producers. The model was then used as a "testing ground" to decide on different configurations and styles throughout the entire construction.

If you saw "Sphere", you may remember the spherical escape sub that Dustin Hottman, Sharon Stone and Samuel Jackson used to escape from depth to the surface.
