New Wave International, a production company, approached the H.O.T. design team to build a radical new underwater filming platform. New Wave was in the process of creating a demanding new motion based ride film called "Dolphins: The Ride" for IMAX. The film's premise was to capture the swimming experience of a dolphin and recreate the virtual experience for an audience. This was a daunting task because of the incredible agility of dolphins. Wet Flight accomplished this feat by enabling a diver to film while maneuvering at speeds far beyond what was ever available before.

The design goal was to create a sub as small and light as possible that was easily deployable and extremely dependable. Because of the tight deadlines found in the filming industry, Wet Flight had to perform error free within three months of conception. With a small and streamlined design effort, H.O.T. was able to cost effectively custom build a "prototype" that performed like a "production tested" design.
