Team Profile Submersibles Flight School News Sponsorship

Be one of the first Sub Sea Aviators. In February 2003, HOT held the world's first Sub Sea Aviation School in the Bahamas, and licensed and trained the the first pilots to fly the Deep Flight 502. In May 2004, the second flight school took place in Loreto, Baja, Mexico (Sea of Cortez).

Once licensed to fly the Deep Flight submersibles, pilots are invited t to join the Deep Flight Society which is helping to establish guidelines for the introduction of sub-sea flight.

More than 95% of the underwater world remains unknown and unseen. The Deep Flight 502 was purpose-built to usher in the birth of sub sea aviation and to explore the greater part of our planet that is covered by water. In February 2003, Hawkes Ocean Technologies held the world's first Sub Sea Aviation School in the Bahamas, and licensed the first group of intrepid pilots to fly underwater.

Due to the great success, a second sub sea aviation course was held in May 2004.

The Sub Sea Aviation School is for the serious explorer/adventurer who, we hope, will help pioneer the new field of sub sea aviation. The intent, in part, is to unlock the imagination, and prove how far a small, dedicatedband of pioneering individuals can take this new freedom for mankind to fly beneath the sea.

A New Experience

The technology is so new that perhaps only Graham Hawkes - while testing the experimental Deep Flight 1 - has come close to the experience provided by this class of underwater flight. That said, the experience will undoubtedly be a phenomenal adventure, profoundly enjoyable and uniquely stimulating for anyone adventurous enough to strap into the cockpit and close the helmet.

The Challenge
The challenge comes from the ability of the DF Aviator to nose down and, in a few moments, plunge its crew into a totally different world, for which all preceding human history provides no preparation. In less than 30 seconds the sub can dive past normal scuba limits and fly over unexplored territory, less than one-tenth of which has been seen by human eyes.

  • Faster than your mind can absorb, the DF Aviator will take you from familiar sunlit blue water· through deep blue· and beyond to zero light. Resident life transitions from the familiar to the bizarre and unknown species yet discovered.
  • Many view a reef overgrown with fauna as the "bottom of the sea". However, within 60 seconds the DF Aviator flies down, beyond the limits of photosynthesis, to a sea bed transformed into the naked surface of a planet.
  • The challenge is to absorb a new alien world perspective, while at the same time acting as pilot, flying low and fast and keeping the wings level. You will be acutely aware that yours is the first human presence, and what lies next is simply unknowable.
  • For those who prefer a less explosive rate of mind expansion, the DF Aviator can climb to familiar sun lit territory and certification can focus on VFR operation.
